The Coach House Tea Rooms sits quietly on the edge of Lydiard Green, nestled in the village of Lydiard Millicent just outside Swindon. This café occupies a converted stable building, offering a casual spot to pause during a countryside walk or while exploring the nearby walled garden and local walking paths. It’s a relaxed place where the rustic charm of converted coach house architecture blends with the pace of rural life.

Visitors often drop in for simple pleasures like coffee, cakes, and ice cream. The quality of their scones and the availability of dietary accommodations such as dairy-free options make it a thoughtful choice for those mindful of their diet. The café’s outdoor seating, while offering a peaceful garden view, could benefit from a bit more upkeep, as some older seating and overgrown patches hint at quieter maintenance days.

The atmosphere is unpretentious with a friendly, welcoming staff who tend to local visitors with genuine care—whether hosting a small private booth inside or serving up a triple scoop of ice cream to hikers and families enjoying the green surroundings. It’s the kind of spot where dog walkers can find treats for their mutts alongside their own refreshments.

The best time to visit is during a mild afternoon when the garden can be appreciated alongside your tea or coffee. Those who appreciate quiet charm over bustling café culture are likely to enjoy this stop as part of a leisurely day out in the countryside rather than a destination for a full meal or trendy coffee scene. Expect a gentle, unhurried vibe with touches of local history and an invitation to stroll the surrounding green space once you’ve finished your refreshment.

The seating and area outside could do with a good tidy up. Loads of weeds and old seating shame it could be nice place to eat and drink

Went here for an afternoon tea and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious (particularly the scones) and they were able to make it dairy free for me. We had a lovely, pre-laid booth in the coach house to ourselves. The staff were wonderful, they went out of their way to make sure we had a lovely time. So friendly and welcoming. You also get entry to the walled garden with the afternoon which was a lovely addition. Can’t wait to come back. One thing to note - you need to book the afternoon tea in advance.

Lovely little place in converted stables with beautiful walks, history and views. Prices for ice cream were fantastic and they tasted even better. I will definitely be back for a triple scoop waffle cone costing £5!! In London il barely get a single scoop for that price. doggy ice cream for the mut as well. Great place.

VeryGood tea rooms, lovely ice cream. More relaxing than main family cafe beside other car park. Coffee very good . Dog friendly While you are there have a look around the little church opposite. It is well worth a visit and come back when it is open. Really a little gem it has just had a £1m conservation upgrade

Absolutely amazing service. We went here for mother's day as I had booked an afternoon tea (which needs to be booked in advance). We had our own booth, the table was laid out so beautifully for us, and we had so much food! The staff were incredibly accommodating in making sure we were well looked after and had enough hot drinks (which we definitely did!) ALL the staff were incredibly friendly, warm and welcoming. I can't wait to come here again.
